Bursaries

Online Bursaries are awarded on the basis of financial need and/or satisfactory academic progress. To be considered for a bursary, eligible students must submit a detailed “Online Bursary Application”. Students awarded a bursary will receive an email by the end of November.

Discretionary Bursary is available to students in need of emergency funding. This bursary application may be submitted at any time throughout the academic year. To apply, please visit the Financial Aid Office (Room C204).


Emergency Supports
are available from the Financial Aid Office on a short-term basis only. For more information, please visit the Financial Aid Office, room C204.

Bursaries open on October 1 and close on October 28 at 4:00 pm, yearly. Selected recipients will be notified by email in November or March.

Bridget Jocelyn Brown Memorial Métis Wellness Award

The Award shall be presented annually to identified by a North Bay Métis citizenship number, who are currently enrolled in any year of a full-time diploma program at Canadore College. In honour of Ms. Brown’s life and work, as part of their application each applicant must submit a written response to the Donor, indicating how they demonstrate the following qualities:

  1. determination and strength of spirit,
  2. honesty and truth in their heart and their words,
  3. strength in adversity,
  4. compassion, and
  5. service to others.

Canada Life Indigenous Health Studies Bursaries
For  students in the Health Care Administration-Indigenous or other Indigenous program in the School of Health, Human Care and Wellness.


Dorothy Coffman Memorial
To recognize an Aboriginal student who demonstrates academic progress, compassion, humour, creativity, and service to the college. Student will be selected by the counsellors in the First Peoples’ Centre.


Ernest Matton (Elder Little Brown Bear) Premier’s Award Bursary
Aboriginal Ancestry
Submission of a 500 word paper addressing their commitment to Community involvement and service in making a difference
Full time enrolment in an Aboriginal (addictions/mental-wellbeing/trauma) program at Canadore College


Gordon Mianscum Memorial Award: created by I CAN LEAD Student Leadership Team; dedicated to honouring the memory of the late Gord Mianscum; to be awarded to a graduating Indigenous student who is continuing their education in their field of study; the purpose of this award is to recognize and provide funding to the graduating student. Student must demonstrate:

  1. outstanding academic achievement in their program,
  2. outstanding performance in volunteering in the community and/or on campus,
  3. their history/background and why they have chosen to work within their program, and
  4. great references from faculty, coordinators, past employers, co-workers/classmates, First Peoples Centre and/or Canadore counsellor(s)

Mattawa Métis Endowed Bursary
To be awarded annually to a deserving Métis citizen or descendant, as selected/confirmed by the Mattawa Métis Council, in any full-time program who demonstrates academic performance and financial need. Recipient(s) is to have graduated within the last five years from a secondary school in the Mattawa community. The purpose of this bursary is to encourage more involvement, engagement and participation in the community of Mattawa.


MNO Métis Student Bursary Program

The Métis Nation of Ontario (MNO) Métis Student Bursary Program provides bursaries to registered students who are verified Métis citizens of the Métis Nation of Ontario. Applicants will be required to consent to a citizenship verification check to confirm eligibility for these awards.

Ken and Bev Byberg Family Foundation Aviation Award 

Aircraft Maintenance and Avionics

The Award shall be presented annually to a student meeting the following selection criteria:

  1. Recipient was born in Canada.
  2. Recipient is 25 years of age or younger.
  3. Recipient is enrolled in the full-time, three-year Aircraft Maintenance and Avionics program.
  4. Preference will be given to a student from Northern Ontario.
  5. Preference will be given to a student with demonstrated financial need.
  6. Recipient should demonstrate care and kindness, and concern for others.

The successful recipient will be determined by Canadore faculty and/or staff.

Emma Catalfamo Emerging Filmmaker Award ($5,000)

The Award shall be presented annually to a Canadore College student who identifies as female, transgender or non-binary. The student shall be graduating from their final year of the full-time Digital Cinematography program; preference will be given to those with lived experience of systemic barriers to equitable access to financial or other resources and opportunities. The recipient will be determined by their demonstrated determination and talent for a promising career in film, as well as their compassion and service to others. In addition to their online application, applicants are asked to also provide – prior to October 31 - a brief written submission (no more than one page) with details of their lived experience of barriers to access to resources and/or opportunities to: carrie.dokis@canadorecollege.ca. Please note these submissions will be reviewed by an internal awards selection committee.

Lions Children's Christmas Telethon Bursary

The Award shall be presented annually to two deserving students in any Media Arts program who demonstrate financial need, and are current volunteers.

North Bay film
Theatre Arts
To a second year Theatre Arts student in financial need; min. GPA 3.5.

Sony of Canada Ltd.
The Award shall be presented annually to a student in any program in the School of Media, Design and Dramatic Arts.

Corbett-McLaughlin Bursary
To a student in a transportation based trade who shows financial need and has a first semester GPA of 3.0 or higher. Caroline Corbett and Scott McLaughlin are to confirm the selection of the student.

David G. Harrison Memorial Award

The Award shall be presented annually to a mature student with a family connection to the Parry Sound region; who is enrolled in Canadore College’s Electrical Techniques program or the in-school component of an electrician apprenticeship at Canadore; and who demonstrates financial need.

If no applicant meets these criteria, any mature or direct entry student with a family connection to the Parry Sound region, enrolled in any on-campus trades program, including Aviation, will also be considered.

If none of these criteria are met in any given year, the bursary shall be awarded to an Indigenous student living in a First Nation community, who is enrolled in a trades training program offered through Canadore College. 

The number of recipients and the individuals selected to receive an award each year will be determined in consultation with the Donor and/or the Donor’s representative, based on the number and quality of applications received.

To a graduate of MacKenzie High School, Deep River, Ontario; student enrolled in a technical course; demonstrated financial need.

Motion Canada to be a partner Award
The Award shall be presented annually to one female student with financial need in any year of an Engineering Technology program. If no suitable female candidates are available, any student with financial need in an Engineering Technology program will be considered.

Stockfish Family Foundation Bursary
To a deserving full-time student currently enrolled in the Motive Power Technician program who demonstrates financial need. Preference will be given to a student who has graduated from a secondary school in the North Bay area within the last five years.

Alexandra Minogue
To a first year student with a physical disability; financial need; satisfactory academic achievement.

Aramark Bursary
To be divided by campus and given to students in financial need.

Ashley-Anne Cameron Memorial
To a student registered with Student Success Services who is in financial need due to a crisis situation.

Assante Capital Management Ltd.
To a student in any program who expresses a need for financial assistance while displaying satisfactory academic improvements.

Atkinson Charitable Foundation
To a student in any full-time program who is in financial need; satisfactory academic achievement.


Canadian Federation of University Women (CFUW) North Bay Canadore College Bursary
Awarded to a North Bay and Area student who identifies as female. This student must demonstrate academic proficiency, show financial need, and must be continuing their studies at Canadore.

Canadian Federation of University Women (CFUW) North Bay Canadore College Non-Traditional Program Bursary
Awarded to a North Bay and Area student who identifies as female student in a non-traditional area of study. This student must demonstrate academic proficiency, show financial need, and must be continuing their studies at Canadore. This recipient must also demonstrate a strong work ethic and high-level of interpersonal skills.

Canadore College Anonymous Donor
Funds to be split among full time students at College Drive, Commerce Court, Aviation campuses; $1,000 to any student registered with Student Success Services.

Canadore Students' Council
To any student in financial need that has contributed to the social and/or academic atmosphere of Canadore College.

Corbett-McLaughlin Human Services Award
Presented annually to a dedicated student in the field of Human Services; is performing well academically in their studies within the School of Human Services and Community Safety; and who demonstrates financial need. Faculty shall be involved in the selection of the award recipient. Eligible programs include: Early Childhood Education, Mental Health and Addictions, Youth at Risk, Social Service Worker, SSW - Gerontology, Community and Justice Services, Police Foundations, Behavioural Science Technician and Behavioural Science Technologist.

Cornick Family Bursary
To a single parent student in sole custody of their children; must have a min. 3.0 GPA.

Dr. Ashford & Zdenka Pedwell Bursary
To a student who demonstrates financial need and a self-directed desire to attain a postsecondary education; and is not in receipt of other known financial supports, e.g. family or other assistance.

Fill it Forward Bursary
The Fill it Forward Bursary shall be presented to a deserving full-time student, who have taken active steps to live more of a sustainable life, currently enrolled in any program at Canadore College, who demonstrates financial need. Applicants must submit a 200-word essay on changes they made in their life to live more sustainably. Essays can be forwarded to Jesse.Russell@canadorecollege.ca. Mark and Sue Lamontagne Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Award

Bursary shall be directed to under-represented Canadore students currently registered in any year of any full-time diploma program, with lived experiences of systemic barriers to equitable access to financial or other resources and opportunities. Students must prepare a letter (maximum 2 pages) about what diversity and inclusion mean to them and highlight a personal experience with systemic barriers. This can include any situation where you felt that your ethnicity, gender identity, gender expression, socioeconomic status, age, dis/ability (invisible or visible), or religion has been a barrier to participating in something such as employment, education, sports, or extra-curricular activities.
