What does it mean to be within the top 2% of all researchers cited regularly? Ask Dr. Vimal Savsani, faculty within the Civil Engineering and Mechnical Engineering programs. This remarkable achievement, within the top 2%of researchers/scientists globally, is the result of the hard work he has dedicated towards research in the last 12 years within the field of mechanical engineering and energy (https://elsevier.digitalcommonsdata.com/datasets/btchxktzyw/3). Elsevier created a publicly available database of over 100,000 top-scientists that provides standardized information on citations, h-index, co-authorship adjusted hm-index, citations to papers in different authorship positions and a composite indicator.

Previously, Vimal completed his graduate Master’s thesis in partnership with ABB Ltd., where he worked on design improvement of power transformers to sustain against seismic loads. This motivated him to continue his work as a researcher that resulted in admission to a doctoral program at SV National Institute of Technology in India. During his doctoral program, he developed a novel optimization algorithm, known as the Teaching Learning Based Optimization (TLBO), for the design optimization of mechanical systems, which has more than 4,000 citations presently. At the time of writing, more than 7,000 researchers have quoted Dr. Savsani’s research work in their publications. He was also a postdoctoral fellow at Thompson Rivers University, BC, Canada, where he worked on developing various multi-optimization algorithms for the design optimization of engineering systems.

Dr. Savsani is diligently working with the research office and ICAMP at Canadore College for identifying research projects that can involve students and the community as a whole. His enthusiasm for working with students stems from his passion in making them aware of research opportunities, advancing knowledge, and linking them as a resource for industry and the sector. Congratulations to Dr. Vimal Savsani on his achievement and his continued work and passion with student learning, research, and industry partners.
