(NORTH BAY, ONT.) – A faculty member, trades technologist and project leader from Canadore College banded together earlier this month to gift a lift to North Bay’s Polar Plunge.

The event, presented by the Ontario Law Enforcement Torch Run, is a fun opportunity to support Special Olympics Ontario athletes by taking a flying leap – a leap into very cold water!

Thanks to the expertise of Pierre Beaudoin and Shawn Alyman from Canadore’s welder-fitter program, the Innovation Centre for Advanced Manufacturing and Production’s (ICAMP) Sarah Rienguette, and the application of powder coating from North Bay Powder Coating, participants at the North Bay Waterfront Marina were able to construct a specialized ladder to allow swimmers to exit the water easily and safely.

The 2019 year marks the 50th anniversary of the Special Olympics movement worldwide.
