Important message and updates regarding Canadore's response to Coronavirus

The Campus Health Centre has offered to communicate using the following means of electronic communication services:

  • Email
  • Telephone consultation
  • Videoconferencing (may include OTN, Skype, FaceTime, Zoom and Microsoft Teams)

If you wish to send documents to the Health Centre you can send them to campushealthcentre@canadorecollege.ca. You must send a copy of the signed consent form with them.

The Campus Health Centre provides quality services and health care delivery by a licensed physician and nurses. Some of the services included, but are not limited to:

  • Illness
  • First Aid
  • Injuries
  • Sutures
  • Injections (incl. Allergy, Depo Provera, B12)
  • On-Site Laboratory (Bloodwork)

Hepatitis A Vaccine - protects against Hep A which is a strain of virus that causes an infection in the liver

Consider the Hepatitis A vaccine if you answer yes to any of the following:

  • Intravenous drug use
  • Chronic liver disease, including Hepatitis B & C
  • Men who have sex with men

Hepatitis B Vaccine - protects against Hep B which is the most common strain to cause an infection in the liver

Consider the Hepatitis B vaccine if you answer yes to any of the following:

  • Multiple sex partners
  • Men who have sex with men
  • History of sexually transmitted diseases 
  • Household or sexual contact of chronic carrier or acute case
  • Intravenous drug use
  • Chronic liver disease, including Hep B & C
  • Have had a needlestick injury in a non-health setting
  • Awaiting a liver transplant
  • Renal dialysis or a disease requiring frequent receipt of blood products 

Gardasil Vaccine - protects against up to 9 types of HPV, also known as Human Papillomavirus. These types cause about 90% of cervical cancers and 90% of genital warts

Prevents in Women

  • Cervical Cancer
  • Vulvar Cancer
  • Vaginal Cancer
  • Anal Cancer
  • Genital Warts
  • Abnormal and pre-cancerous cervical, anal, vulvar and vaginal cells

Prevents in Men

  • Anal Cancer
  • Genital Warts
  • Abnormal and pre-cancerous anal lesions
  • Oral Cancer

The Campus Health Centre also offers a range of sexual health services including: 

  • Low cost birth control (many are also covered under the Student Health Plan)
  • Pap smears
  • STI testing
  • Vaccinations 
  • Free male and female condoms
  • Free dental dams

Sexually Transmitted Infection Information:

  • Regardless of age, gender or sexual orientation any person who engages in sexual activity is at risk for contracting an STI
  • Untreated infections can result in serious health consequences including infertility and life threatening infections
  • Many STI's will show absolutely no symptoms. Up to 75% of females and 50% of males infected with Chlamydia don't show any signs or symptoms. 
  • The only way to know if you have an STI is to get tested any time you put yourself at risk (multiple sex partners, unprotected oral, anal and/or vaginal sex)

Common STI Signs and Symptoms:

  • Abnormal vaginal or penile discharge (foul odour, thick, milky white)
  • Swollen testicles
  • Abnormal bleeding between periods 
  • Pain with intercourse
  • Pain with urination

STI Testing:

  • Most cases involve a simple urine test or a simple swab - the process is quick, painless and completely private

Leave The Pack Behind (LTPB) is a smoking cessation program that offers young adults smoking and quitting information, personalized support, and quitting resources such as patches and gum-  Free of cost!

This program is available on Campus for all students!
