Industry-Trained Graduates Ready to Work

(NORTH BAY, ONT.) -- Canadore College is hosting its Convocation Ceremonies for the Schools of Health, Human Care and Wellness; Environmental Studies and Biotechnology; and Indigenous Studies on June 7.

Guest speaker Jennifer Flanagan, CEO of Actua, will be speaking to approximately 420 graduates.

Flanagan is a go-to thought leader and advocate for science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education in Canada. As CEO of Actua, Canada’s largest STEM outreach organization, Flanagan is known as an expert on how to equip Canadian youth with the skills and knowledge they will need for the future of work. Her industry-leading work specializes in programs that engage underserved youth populations and Actua engages over 300,000 youth in over 500 communities annually in every province and territory. She has served on the boards of the Girls Action Foundation and the International Network for Women in Engineering and Science, and currently sits on the board of the Canadian Women’s Foundation. Flanagan has twice been named one of Canada’s Top 100 Most Powerful Women, is the recipient of a Y Women of Distinction Award and was named one of Ottawa’s Top Forty Under 40. In 2016, Flanagan was chosen as the RBC Women Entrepreneur of the Year in the social change category.  

Canadore College is very proud of its graduates for their accomplishments and for achieving their education goals. Each year, approximately 1,000 students graduate from the College, joining a network of 46,000 alumni working across the globe.

The ceremonies are being held at the College Drive Campus (100 College Drive, North Bay, Ont.) on Friday, June 7 at 10 a.m.

The remaining Convocation Ceremonies will take place on:

Friday, June 14, 10 a.m. – Aviation Technology; and Trades and Technology (Aviation Technology Campus, 55 Aviation Avenue, North Bay, Ont.)

Canadore’s convocation ceremonies are also being live streamed and relayed on TVCOGECO North Bay on channel 12 and in HD on channel 700; web viewers can tune in at http://www.canadoretv.com.

Canadore College trains people through applied learning, leadership and innovation. It provides access to over 75 full-time quality programs and has outstanding faculty and provides success services to students from nearly 400 Canadian communities and 15 international countries. The College and its students add nearly $244 million to Nipissing Parry Sound Service Area economy. Approximately 1,000 students graduate from Canadore each year, and they join 46,000 alumni working across the globe. Canadore receives less than 50 per cent of its traditional funding from the provincial Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities and relies on its own innovation and entrepreneurial endeavors and generous donors for the balance.
