A recent trip by a team from Canadore College to Mexico has opened the door to enhanced student and employee experiences. Canadore's President and CEO, Vice President, Academic, and Dean of Aviation, Trades, and Technology visited post-secondary institutions in four major cities in Mexico to explore opportunities for cooperation and mutual benefit.

“We were very impressed by the openness and quality of the institutions in Mexico,” said President and CEO George Burton.  “We explored student and faculty exchanges, program pathways, program development, and applied research opportunities across multiple disciplines.”

The Mexico trip was undertaken as part of Canadore's internationalization strategy which aims to harness, to the greatest extent possible, the benefits of holistic, authentic and ethical internationalization for Canadore College

“The visit is part of our planned strategies aiming to accelerate a few key areas that are critical to our internationalization objectives and the positioning of Canadore as a global post-secondary academic institute striving for excellence,” said Dr. Ahmed Obaide, Vice President, Academic.  “There was an overall synergy that we anticipate will lead to mutually beneficial collaboration in more than one project.”

Teams will start working together on exploring international research projects in a few fields of study and interest that include biotechnology and aviation.  A summer educational and cultural program will also be evaluated, and new modes of academic delivery, such as co-teaching pilot courses, will be investigated and then designed.  Canadore signed a memorandum of understanding with the Universidad Politécnica de Ramos Arizepe (UPRA) to facilitate connections in engineering and business.

“We had the opportunity to visit academic institutions, innovation centers, and government educational departments,” said Dr. Maria Parra, Dean of Aviation, Trades, and Technology.  “Supporting our commitment to global education, we will work together on virtual lectures, mobility, and joint credentials, and collaborate on research.”

“We share several academic and economic development priorities, and we are looking forward to developing long-term relationships with the institutions,” said Burton.  “We expect to be hosting a number of delegations in the near future.”
